Playback’s most popular: ‘Ten to Watch’ wins the year

It warms our holiday hearts here at Playback that you have made a celebration of Canada’s up-and-coming talent the most-read article of the year.

Our annual roundup of up-and-coming talent ranked #1 in our Top 50 list of most-clicked and was in fact was so popular, it is the most-read article on the website since it relaunched in 2010.

Our list this year included Andre Dupuis & Scott Wilson, Anthony Leo & Andrew Rosen, Nathan Vella, Lindsay George, Larysa Kondracki, Jenn Engels, Sarah Gadon, Jason and Ryan Belleville, Jeff Toyne, and Geoff Ashenhurst.

We would once again like to congratulate all on their accomplishments, which were feted at our annual Hall of Fame ceremony in September at the Glenn Gould theatre in CBC’s Toronto headquarters. For pics from the event, click here and here.

Before we lost them to turkey feasts, southern holidays or lengthy sweatpants-wearing The Walking Dead marathons (oh wait, that’s me), we reached out to our ambitious crew to find out what some of them are looking forward to in 2012.

“I’m looking forward to my new film DISSENT, an international thriller. I’m working with Christina Piovesan again, producer of The Whistleblower, and we are currently packaging the project which will shoot in Canada and Germany.” – Larysa Kondracki, director

“In 2012, I’m looking forward to the theatrical release of David Cronenberg‘s Cosmopolis and Brandon Cronenberg’s Antiviral.” – Sarah Gadon, actor

“I’d say I’m looking forward to seeing our second season of Todd & The Book of Pure Evil airing on Thursdays in January 2012 and our second season of What’s Up Warthogs! airing on Family in March 2012!” – Andrew Rosen, producer, Aircraft Pictures (seconded by Aircraft’s Anthony Leo)

“2012 is already busy –  I’m in the middle of cutting The Lesser Blessed for Anita Doron with Christina Piovesan producing, followed immediately by The Black Marks with Jonathan Sobol and Nicholas Tabarrok.  I’m really hoping that Santa brings that clone I asked for.” – Geoff Ashenhurst, editor

“Ryan and I are splitting our time between LA and Toronto and a currently developing several projects for the new year,” wrote Jason Belleville in an email. Playback spent some quality time with the Belleville Bros. this fall for the back page of our Winter issue, which if you haven’t seen it, is totally hilarious.
