Baruchel and Tierney share stage at Hall of Fame

Two new awards will be handed out at this year’s Canadian Film and Television Hall of Fame: the Audi Performance Award and the Panavision Award.

The Audi Performance Award is presented to an outstanding Canadian too young to be inducted to the Hall of Fame based on the length of their career, yet one who has impressively contributed to the status of the Canadian Film and Television industry, both at home and abroad.

The winner of the inaugural Audi Performance Award is actor Jay Baruchel.

Although still in his 20s, Baruchel already has a remarkable list of credits to his name, including lead roles in The Trotsky, She’s out of My League, How to Train your Dragon (voice) and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.

Karsten Ruwoldt, Director of Marketing and Product Management for AUDI Canada told Playback Daily, “At AUDI we say ‘Vorsprung durch Technik.’  Vorsprung is the courage to realize the imaginable; the joy of the challenge, and it is without question that Jay Baruchel, who has already accomplished so much, embraces that sentiment.  AUDI, and the Canadian industry celebrate Jay’s excellence by presenting him with the inaugural AUDI Performance Award.”

Look for Baruchel in Jacob Tierney’s new film, Good Neighbours, which has its world premiere at TIFF.

And, look for Tierney and Baruchel to share the Hall of Fame stage this year, as the young director has been named in first winner of the Panavision Award.

The Panavision Award is given to one of the previous year’s Ten to Watch honorees who, as deemed by Playback editorial, has had a breakout year in the previous twelve months and firmly established themselves in their careers.

Bill Zacharuk, President and COO of Panavision Canada Corporation commented that, “Panavision is the leading voice in motion pictures produced on film and digital media and as such it is both our privilege and our commitment to continue to support Canada’s accomplished young talent.  We are thrilled to celebrate Jacob Tierney and honored to present him with the inaugural Panavision Award.”

The awards will be presented at Playback’s Canadian Film and Television Hall of Fame ceremony on Sept. 13, during TIFF, at ET Canada’s Festival Central Yorkville.
