Wattpad Webtoon Studios has appointed veteran network executive David Madden as its head of global entertainment.

Reporting to Wattpad Webtoon Studios president Aron Levitz from L.A., Madden will oversee the development, production and sales of the studio’s content slate, which includes TV, features and animation.

Madden most recently served as president of television at Berlanti Productions, overseeing development and production for the prodco’s TV content, with executive producer credits on Vancouver-shot series Superman & Lois and Kung Fu, as well as The Flight Attendant, You and All American: Homecoming.

Before then he held senior executive roles at major U.S. broadcasters, including president of programming, entertainment networks at AMC Networks, president of Fox Television Studios, and president of Entertainment at Fox Broadcasting Company. Madden’s executive work includes the development of FX series The Americans and The Shield. He won an Emmy in 2004 for the HBO film Something the Lord Made.

Wattpad Webtoon Studios made inroads in Hollywood at the end of 2021 with a coproduction deal with ViacomCBS International Studios, and built on that in 2022 with development deals with British producer and distributor Fremantle and Italian media company Leone Film Group.

Madden’s appointment comes two months after co-founder Allen Lau stepped aside as CEO to work in an advisory role at Wattpad and Webtoon, both subsidiaries of parentco Naver. Wattpad president Jeanne Lam took over leadership and day-to-day operations of the company.
