Baroness von Sketch Show to end after five seasons

The CBC sketch comedy stars and co-creators released a joint statement on the decision to end the series with its fifth and final season, set to air this fall.

CBC sketch comedy Baroness von Sketch Show is coming to a close with its fifth and final season.

Co-creators Carolyn Taylor, Meredith MacNeill, Aurora Browne and Jennifer Whalen released a joint statement to confirm their decision to end the series after five seasons, adding they are “grateful to have been given the opportunity to share our deepest embarrassments, existential angst and daily observations with you, our fans.”

The 8 x 30-minute final season, which has already been filmed, will air on CBC in the fall.

Baroness von Sketch Show is produced by Frantic Films, with CEO Jamie Brown serving as executive producer. It airs on IFC in the U.S.

The sketch comedy series has garnered critical acclaim and several accolades during its run, including a Rose d’Or for best comedy series, best comedy and variety program at the 2019 Rockie Awards International Program Competition, as well as the top honour for sketch comedy at the Canadian Screen Awards three years running.

The series’ fourth season is up for five nominations for the Canadian Screen Awards, including Best Sketch Comedy Show & Ensemble Performance. The category is set to be announced on Wednesday (May 27), during the virtual CSA winner announcements running from May 25 to 28.

Frantic Films is among the prodcos which have bought themselves back from Kew Media Group after the company went into receivership in early 2020. Banijay Rights holds the international sales rights to Baroness.
