CBC and NBCUniversal International Studios have partnered up for buddy cop drama series Lady Dicks (10 x 60 minutes) from Toronto-based Cameron Pictures.
Co-created by Sherry White (Little Dog, Frontier) and Cameron Pictures co-founder Tassie Cameron (Mary Kills People, Ten Days in the Valley), the series follows two radically different female detectives (Baroness von Sketch Show‘s Meredith MacNeill and Orange Is The New Black‘s Adrienne C. Moore) in their early 40s, who grapple with loneliness, dysfunctional families, messed up love lives and the sense that their professional goals may not be in line with their personal needs.
Cameron and White will serve as co-showrunners on the drama. The two previously worked together on Global/ABC police drama Rookie Blue, co-created by Cameron, who served as showrunner on all six seasons, while White was a writer and co-executive producer; Global/Lifetime drama Mary Kills People, produced by eOne and Cameron Pictures in association with Corus Entertainment; ABC drama series Ten Days in the Valley, created by Cameron and executive produced by the duo; and CBC original comedy Little Dog, produced by Cameron Pictures and Elemental Pictures, which saw White serve as showrunner.
Executive producers on Lady Dicks include White, Cameron Pictures executive producer Alex Patrick and prodco co-founders Tassie and Amy Cameron.
NBCUniversal will handle global distribution for the series, which is set to begin production in Ontario this spring. Toronto filmmaker Holly Dale (Batwoman, Mary Kills People) will direct the show’s premiere episode. A spokesperson for CBC told Playback Daily that no premiere date has been set yet.
Funders on Lady Dicks include the IPF Cogeco TV Production Program, the Canada Media Fund (CMF), the Ontario Film and Television Tax Credit and the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit.
