Small but mighty LED volume takes British Columbia productions anywhere, virtually

Lumostage Vancouver, a leading provider of LED virtual production services, has proudly relocated its studio to the regional tax credit zone of British Columbia.

Out-of-zone film productions can now access LED virtual production at Lumostage while preserving the enhanced tax credit benefits for filming outside of Metro Vancouver.

Lumostage’s new facility, located in Langley Township with convenient access to Highway 1, features an impressive 180-degree semicircular LED volume measuring 16 feet high and 38 feet in diameter. This advanced setup enables filmmakers to create dynamic, immersive environments, revolutionizing traditional production methods. Key services include the INT. CAR System, which provides seamless virtual car process shots, and virtual location services offering unparalleled creative flexibility and cost efficiency.

“Lumostage was founded by filmmakers who understand the challenges and opportunities in today’s industry,” said Daniel Hsia, President and co-founder of Lumostage. “Production budgets are down across the board. Our move to Langley Township ensures that BC filmmakers can now utilize the latest tools in virtual production technology, while taking advantage of critical tax incentives that make their productions possible.”

Lumostage is designed to support productions of all sizes, making high-quality virtual production accessible to productions of. The company’s services include:

  1. The INT. CAR™  SYSTEM: A customized LED car process workflow that allows for dynamic and realistic in-vehicle scenes, enhancing storytelling while eliminating the logistical challenges of filming on a process trailer.

  2. Virtual Location Services: Enabling productions to create immersive and versatile settings, from fantastical landscapes to urban environments, without the need for extensive travel or set construction.

While virtual production is best known for big-budget, fantastical settings such as spaceships and fantasy worlds, Lumostage emphasizes the technology’s ability to solve location problems for all filmmakers – hence the company’s motto, “Any Location, One Stage.” Feature film Akashi utilized Lumostage to film driving scenes set in Tokyo, Japan. Queen of the Underworld filmed a pivotal scene set in a sunny field at the LED studio, avoiding weather delays during the cold damp month of November. Director Karen Lam filmed Armageddon Road, set in the 1970s Nevada desert, using virtual production at Lumostage.

In addition to providing a turnkey LED volume, Lumostage also offers “pop up” virtual production installations for episodic or feature projects. “Our clients have been amazed at what is achievable at Lumostage,” said Hsia. “Their experience has inspired them to come back with innovative new ideas for films and stories they want to bring to life using virtual production.”
