A mazon Prime Video has greenlit a Canadian version of its original format LOL: Last One Laughing. 

Produced by Insight Productions and hosted by Jay Baruchel (pictured), LOL: Last One Laughing Canada is a six-part, half-hour unscripted comedy series set to shoot in Toronto. A release date has not yet been announced.

The format, which launched initially in Japan, sees a group of comedians bet their own money in a competition where you are eliminated if you laugh. The final comedian standing wins a prize for the charity of their choosing. Outside of the Japanese original, Amazon Studios has also made local versions of LOL: Last One Laughing in Mexico, Australia, Germany and Italy.

Executive producers on the Canadian iteration are Insight’s John Brunton, Erin Brock and Shannon Farr.

This marks the third Canadian series commissioned by Amazon after The Kids in the Hall revival and docuseries All or Nothing: Toronto Maple Leafs. The most recent greenlight comes as Amazon seems poised to hire its first Canadian content executive, after the streamer began posting for a scripted development executive earlier this year.
