Boat Rocker’s scripted arm, Temple Street Productions, has secured the television rights to Canadian author Susan Swan’s debut novel, The Biggest Modern Woman of the World.

Scribe Hannah Moscovitch (pictured), whose credits include Played and Temple Street’s X Company, will adapt the novel. She will serve as an exec producer along with Temple Street’s Trish Williams (Killjoys) and Boat Rocker co-presidents David Fortier (The Next Step) and Ivan Schneeberg (Orphan Black). Boat Rocker Rights holds the worldwide rights to the series.

Originally published in 1983, the novel tells the true story of a Nova Scotian seven-foot-six giantess who exhibited with American showman P.T. Barnum. The Biggest Modern Woman of the World was a finalist for the Governor General’s Award for fiction in 1983.

Some of Swan’s other novels include The Wives of Bath (1993) and its prequel The Western Light (2012). Swan’s fiction has been published in 15 countries and translated into eight languages.

The Wives of Bath, which follows a murder at a girls boarding school in the 1960’s, was made into 2001 feature Lost and Delirious starring Jessica Pare and Mischa Barton. In 2015, Clique Pictures and Aberrant Pictures optioned the feature film rights to The Western Light, a story about a girl who mistakenly puts her trust in an institutionalized ex-hockey player and convicted murderer.

The Biggest Modern Woman of the World joins Temple Street’s growing slate, which includes the upcoming CBC TV series Cavendish (set to debut winter 2019). The prodco also recently acquired the television rights to Canadian author Kelley Armstrong’s Rockton novel series.
