Netflix has commissioned a live-action series from Boat Rocker Media, based on the Japanese manga Kakegurui.
Production on Bet (10 x 30 minutes) got underway on Thursday (May 30), with filming taking place in Toronto and surrounding areas, according to a news release.
Bet was developed for television by Simon Barry (Warrior Nun), who also directs. Barry is an executive producer alongside Jeff F. King and Boat Rocker’s David Fortier, Ivan Schneeberg, Jon Rutherford and Nick Nantell.
The series centres on students at a boarding school for the global elite, where underground gambling determines the school’s hierarchy.
The cast includes Miku Martineau, Ayo Solanke, Eve Edwards, Clara Alexandrova, Hunter Cardinal, Anwen O’Driscoll, Aviva Mongillo and Ryan Sutherland.
Kakegurui is written by Homura Kawamoto and illustrated by Toru Naomura. It is serialized in Gangan Joker, published by Square Enix.
