Boat Rocker Media has completed its purchase of the remaining 30% of shares in Toronto-based Insight Productions for $7.95 million.
In addition to the $7.95 million purchase price, the transaction — completed on Dec. 31, 2024 — includes an undisclosed amount equal to 30% of Insight’s excess working capital. Boat Rocker will retain 70% of these amounts, which includes the receipt of future tax credits, according to a news release.
Boat Rocker originally bought its 70% majority stake in Insight in May 2018. The minority purchase agreement was first announced in August 2024, initially valued at approximately $7.5 million.
Insight chairperson and CEO John Brunton will continue to lead the company.
Insight-produced series include CBC’s Canada’s Ultimate Challenge, CTV’s The Amazing Race Canada (pictured), Flavour Network’s Top Chef Canada and Global’s Big Brother Canada, which ended in June 2024 after 12 seasons.
The company also produces the annual Juno Awards, which will broadcast and stream its 54th edition live on March 30 via CBC.
The purchase will allow “Boat Rocker to continue to lean into high-profile service work, grow its stable of clients in Canada and the U.S. and produce premium content, while continuing to operate debt-free with a strong balance sheet,” Boat Rocker Media CEO John Young said in a statement.
