Cineflix Productions forms joint venture with U.S. partners

Led by showrunner Will Spjut (pictured), Shiny Screens Entertainment will produce unscripted content and formats.

Cineflix Productions has partnered with U.S. prodco Ping Pong Productions to form a new Los Angeles-based joint venture with veteran unscripted showrunner Will Spjut, building on its growing portfolio.

Shiny Screens Entertainment will develop and produce “high-value unscripted series and formats for the global market.”

Spjut has two decades of experience producing unscripted television, working with networks such as National Geographic, FOX and USA Network. His most recent credits include Netflix series The World’s Most Amazing Vacation Rentals and reality competition series Home Free, hosted by Canadian lifestyle personality Mike Holmes.

The joint venture deal was set up by J.C. Mills, president and commercial director, Cineflix Productions, Sam Berliner, Bill Abrams for Ping Pong Productions and James Finney and Sean Zeid on behalf of Spjut.

Glendale, CA-based Ping Pong Productions is founded by Brad Kuhlman and Casey Brumels and is the prodco behind unscripted series such as Discovery adventure series Expedition Unknown and TLC’s Dr. Pimple Popper.

“Having the support of two powerhouses like Cineflix Productions and Ping Pong is an enormous vote of confidence and our combined experience across various networks and genres makes for a spectacular team,” said Spjut in a statement. “I’m excited to continue to create innovative and original series that will entertain and inform audiences worldwide

Shiny Screens Entertainment joins the ranks of Cineflix’s other joint ventures, London-based Buccaneer Media, led by Tony Wood and Richard Tulk-Hart, and the Pablo Satzman-helmed Connect3 Media, based in Montreal.

The company has helped launch three production outfits in 2021 – two Toronto-based prodcos, Husk Media, led by Morwyn Brebner (Coroner) and former Cineflix COO Andrew Akamn, and producer Jacqueline Bynon’s More to the Story Media, as well as New York-based First Story Productions, led by former Cineflix Productions president Charles Tremayne.
