Indiecan Entertainment acquires MMA feature Cagefighter

The Saskatchewan-shot film, produced by Trilight Entertainment and Anamorphic Media, is set for digital release on Nov. 24.

A vi Federgreen’s Indiecan Entertainment has acquired the Canadian distribution rights to mixed martial arts film Cagefighter: Worlds Collide, with the film set for digital release on Nov. 24. 

Written and directed by Jesse Quinones, the Saskatchewan-shot film premiered for one night only earlier this year through an innovative partnership with combat sports streaming service FITE TV.

Produced by Shayne Putzlocher and Jessica Gaube of Calgary’s Trilight Entertainment and Sara Shaak of Anamorphic Media, also in based in Calgary, the film stars Reiss Gibbins as a cage fighter on the brink of stardom. However, in order to get there, he must face off against a man from the scripted world of professional wrestling.

It also includes a number of famous faces from the world of mixer martial arts and professional wrestling, including former UFC champions Chuck Liddell and Luke Rockhold and pro wrestlers Jay “Christian” Reso (who also serves as an executive producer) and Jon “Moxley” Good.

The deal represents Toronto-based Indiecan’s fourth acquisition since May, with the company also picking up Canadian distribution rights to Adrian Panek’s Werewolf, Can Evrenol’s Girl With No Mouth and Susan Rodgers’ first scripted feature film Still the Water.

Cagefighter, which is financed by Anamorphic, is being sold internationally by U.K.-based Kaleidoscope Film Distribution.
