SODEC has announced the 33 projects to receive funding through its screenwriting assistance program.
Award-winning documentary filmmakers were among the recipients of the program, including Carole Laganière and Serge Giguère, who are both past honourees of Hot Docs’ Focus On respective. Laganière will receive funding for Fuir, produced by Productions InformAction, while Giguère will receive funding for Héritage: Maurice Richard, produced by Films du Rapide-Blanc.
Screenwriter Geneviève Dulude-De Celles, whose first narrative feature Une colonie is part of the Berlin International Film Festival‘s 2018 Generation program, will also receive support for her doc Les Jours, produced by Colonelle Films.
Among the narrative feature recipients are 2018 Canadian Screen Awards nominee Nicole Bélanger for Le géniteur (produced by Films Vision 4), TIFF 2016 award winner Mathieu Denis for Le fils du dictateur (Max Films Media), TIFF Writer’s Studio 2018 participant Celeste Parr for Ethel’s Orchestra (MCP Productions), Fantasia festival winner David Paradis for Résidence (Exogène Films) and Mytho screenwriter Éric K. Boulianne for Mr. Thibault (K.O. 24), co-written with Marc-Antoine Rioux.
The remaining comedy and genre narrative features receiving funds are La tour de Basile (Jesse Films II and Stopfilm), written by Matt Holland and Micheline Lanctôt; Cent mille Sandre (Parce Que Films), written by Steve Landry; Pas d’chicane dans ma cabane (Forum Films 2005), written by Sandrine Brodeur-Desrosiers and Maryse Latendresse; and Terminal Grand Nord (Groupe PVP), written by François Bouvier and Isabelle Lafortune.
Meanwhile the dramas awarded are Le Train, written by Marie Brassard and produced by Microclimat Films; 4H, written by Sébastien Godron and produced by Les Films Camera Oscura; Autour d’elle, written by Sophie Bienvenu and produced by Amalga Créations Médias; Simple comme Sylvain, written by Monia Chokri and produced by Metafilms; En scène!, written by Bianca Bellange and Ayana O’Shun and produced by Productions Bel Ange Moon; La vie privée des animaux, written by Nathalie Saint-Pierre.
Other English-language narrative titles are Homo Sapienne, written by Natasha Kanapé Fontaine and produced by La Maison de prod and The Touch of her Flesh, written by Mia Donovan and produced by Microclimat Films.
The remaining documentary features to receive funding are Bitch, written by Maryse Legagneur; Ce qui tourne au cauchemar, written by Simon Beaulieu and produced by Les Films de Gary; Chroniques urbaines, written by Nadine Gomez; L’esprit du violon trad, written by André Gladu and produced by Argus Films; L’océan vu du cœur, written by Iolande Cadrin-Rossignol and produced by Jane Losa Films; Le plein potential, written by Annie St-Pierre and produced by Metafilms; Pour garder toute sa tête, written by Nancy Florence Savard and produced by Productions 10e Ave; Pour toujours, written by Sophie Lambert and produced by Les Films Outsiders; Sanctuaire, written and produced by Simon Gaudreau; Seuls, written by Julie Boisvert and Mylène Péthel and produced by Picbois Productions; Producing the Threat, written by Amy Miller and produced by Wide Open Exposure Productions and Reframing Bollywood, written by Rahila Bootwala and Shelley Tepperman and produced by Cinévedas.
SODEC did not disclose the amount of funds given to the projects.
