Talk about nailing that audition.

2 Broke Girls‘ Adam Korson and Carrie-Lynn Neales have been named as leads in Seed, the 13-part sitcom from Force Four Entertainment for Citytv that is set to shoot in Halifax from Oct. 1.

Los Angeles-based Canadian actor Korson is coming off a stint in 2 Broke Girls, and plays a serial sperm donor ill-equipped for fatherhood in Seed, which was created by Joseph Raso (Zombies & Cheerleaders).

And Neales had a role in The L.A. Complex, but for the most part impressed the casting team for Seed to earn her role as a single mother who gets pregnant using a sperm bank and becomes entangled romantically with Korson’s bartender character.

Claire Freeland, director of original programming for Rogers Media, recalled the immediate chemistry Neales and Korson shared on camera during casting.

“They had a great energy. They made each other better. We were less concerned about her (Neales) credits, and more concerned  about her performance,” Freeland told Playback.

“She’s quirky and intelligent, and she has the IT factor,” she added of the Toronto actor.

Many of the Seed characters – played by an ensemble cast that includes Amanda Brugel (Saving Hope, The Firm), Stephanie Anne Mills, Laura de Carteret, Matt Baram, Vanessa Matsui, William Ainscough and up-and-comer Abby Ross – are quirky, yet accessible.

That should enable Seed to possibly meld with companion shows on its Citytv schedule like Modern Family and Ben & Kate, to enhance the network brand.

Raso will executive produce Seed along with Mark Farrell, who was brought on board to bolster the writing room.

The Force Four production team includes supervising producer Paula J. Smith (Less Than Kind) and producer/line producer Karen Wentzell (Trailer Park Boys).

Besides Seed, Citytv has also commissioned Package Deal and The Bachelor Canada for its Canadian lineup.
