Bell Media has seen another of its homegrown dramas get on a U.S. network after CW made it official Tuesday: The L.A. Complex is headed to the youth-skewing channel.

CW picked up six episodes of the one-hour series shot in Toronto and Los Angeles last October after a series order by Bell Media in 2010.

The U.S. network plans a spring 2012 bow for the Canadian drama.

Martin Gero (Young People Fucking) brought the concept of a character-driven soap about mostly young Canadian actors trying to make it in Hollywood to Epitome Pictures, which produces the Degrassi franchise and knows a thing about wannabe teen stars.

“For so many years, we’ve been working with young Canadian actors who venture to L.A. for pilot season, some of whom have even landed series on the CW,” said series executive producer Linda Schuyler, in a statement.

Unveiling the CW deal comes on the same day The L.A. Complex debuts with a simulcast on CTV and MuchMusic.

If the soap holds up with Canadian viewers, Bell Media is expected to order another seven episodes of The L.A. Complex to get the first season to 13 episodes.

After tonight’s bow, The L.A. Complex will air Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. on MuchMusic.

The series stars Jewel Staite (Firefly), Jonathan Patrick Moore, Joe Dinicol, Andra Fuller, Chelan Simmons, Cassie Steele and Benjamin Charles Watson.

The Canadian soap is executive-produced by Schuyler and Stephen Stohn of Epitome Pictures and Gero, who also directed the series with Stefan Brogren.

The writers room was filled by Gero, Aaron Abrams, Matt Huether, Cole Bastedo, Karen Hill, and Brendan Gall.
