The Quebecor Fund (QF) and the Canada Media Fund (CMF) have allocated a total of approximately $1.76 million in the latest round of the Television Production and Assistance Program.
Nine series are being funded through Quebecor’s Support for the Production of Intellectual Property for International Markets, with CMF contributing $576,360 to seven dramas and one documentary project. QF will contribute $1,187,057. The program is designed to support Quebec-based IP targeting international markets.
The returning series receiving support are Bête noire season three (Encore télévision), airing on Séries Plus; Bellefleur season two (Trio Orange) on Crave; FEM season two (Ugo Média) on TV5; and Mont-Rouge season two (Productions Casablanca, Connections Productions) on Radio-Canada.
The funding is also intended for new series, including Dernière seconde (Duo Productions) about an explosives technician recovering after an attack, which will air on illico+ in 2025; as well as Mr. Big (Also Productions), a procedural about a special unit of the RCMP, airing on TVA Group in 2025.
There’s also Prends soin (Passez Go, C3 Media), licensed by Bell Media, focuses on a young orderly taking care of a grandfather who slowly takes over his life and that of his lover. The series will begin pre-production in 2025.
Rounding out the jointly funded series is the eight-part documentary Saveurs précieuses (Lustitia Productions), which explores unique foods around the world. With KO Distribution on board, the series is set to debut in 2026.
Both Prends soin and Saveurs précieuses received funding from the Société de développement des entreprises culturelles in November.
The lone series with just QF’s support is Pixcom’s Alertes – Édition Spéciale, broadcast on TVA, about a detective-sergeant investigating a femicide in a small town while on vacation.
The CMF and QF will also invest $602,000 through the Export Assistance Program (EXAP) in support for export initiatives by Amalga Créations Médias, Urbania Média and Productions Version 10. CMF will provide $402,000 and QF will contribute $200,000.
Amalga Créations Médias, Trio Orange International and Encore Télévision Distribution will also receive $160,000 through the EXAP program to support the transfer of shares to women within the company.
