The 2024 Paris Olympics Games, broadcast in Canada on CBC, drew strong demand, debuting on No. 8 on the overall TV chart during the last week of July.
The summer Olympics were 33.6 times more popular than the average TV series in Canada for the week of July 29 to Aug. 4, according to Parrot Analytics. The Games, which ended on Aug. 11, made Canadian gold medal winners such as swimmer Summer McIntosh and hammer thrower Ethan Katzberg (pictured) household names in Canada.
Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power also saw a similar jump in demand following the premiere of its season two trailer at San Diego Comic-Con on July 27. The Lord of the Rings prequel series was 25.1 times more popular than the average TV series, placing it at No. 6 for digital originals.
HBO’s House of the Dragon, available in Canada through Crave, and Prime Video’s The Boys continued their dominance of Canadian demand. The series were 88.2 and 60.4 times more in demand than the average TV series in Canada, respectively.
Despite its popularity dropping more than six points compared to the week before, Netflix’s Cobra Kai moved up to the No. 3 spot on digital originals. It trails behind Prime Video’s Hazbin Hotel at No. 2.

Editor’s note: Due to a data processing issue with Parrot Analytics, the weekly Hot Sheet is being published with back-dated numbers for an indefinite period.
Parrot Analytics calculates its Top 10 lists using Demand Expressions, which are shown by using a metric that demonstrates how much more in-demand the top series are than the average TV show (linear, pay TV, SVOD and AVOD) in Canada. For example, a difference of 1x represents the market average and 10x means a series is 10 times more in demand than the average TV show in this market.
