Tubi boosts its film library in Canada

The Fox-owned AVOD has added more than 200 films via deals with NBCUniversal, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Warner Bros. Discovery.

Fox’s ad-supported streaming service, Tubi, has expanded its offering north of the border, adding more than 200 movies to its Canadian library.

The additions are the result of new deals cut with NBCUniversal, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Warner Bros. Discovery, and include films in the action, comedy, family and thriller genres.

New NBCUniversal additions include The Girl on the Train, 8 Mile and Dune (1984), as well as films from franchises like Despicable Me, Jurassic Park, The Mummy and Fast & Furious.

Sony Pictures adds films such as As Good As it Gets, Salt and The Whole Nine Yards, with 21 Jump Street, Hancock, Step Brothers and Fury to be added at a later date.

Warner Bros. Discovery, meanwhile, adds films such as Assassins, Demolition Man and Constantin, while Final Destination, American History X, Central Intelligence and Cloud Atlas are coming soon.

Tubi is home to a few Canadian exclusives, such as BBC-made Boarders, Charlotte Coben’s comedy-thriller series Dead Hot, and new comedy series Big Mood, which was written and created by Camilla Whitehill and directed by Rebecca Asher (Dead to Me).

“Audiences have become increasingly sophisticated in their expectations around the content they consume on streaming services,” said David Salmon, EVP and managing director, international at Tubi, in a statement. “We know users are looking for choice, personalization and great value, and we believe Tubi is market-leading in all three.”
