All-Round Champion gets an early renewal

TVO and BYUtv have greenlit the marblemedia-produced unscripted series for a second season ahead of its March broadcast premiere.

TVO and U.S. channel BYUtv have greenlit a second season of unscripted series All-Round Champion ahead of its broadcast premiere.

The marblemedia-produced kids and family series follows athletes aged 12 to 15 as they compete in each other’s sports, including gymnastics, swimming and golf, to determine who is the All-Round Champion based on overall score. Each episode includes a coaching session with a professional athlete.

The 11 x 60-minute second season, which is now in production, will feature common winter sports, such as skating and snowboarding, and includes special guests like champion ski-jumper Sarah Hendrickson, speed skating Olympic gold medalist Derek Parra and X Games champion Max Parrot.

The series will make its broadcast premiere on BYUtv on March 19 and on TVOKids on March 25, and will air on Knowledge Network in the summer.

marblemedia picked up the format rights from Beta Film, which created the format in Norway for NRK, titled Best I Mest. The series went on to win an International Emmy for kid’s non-scripted entertainment.

Producers on All-Round Champion are Matt Hornburg, Mark Bishop and Steve Sloan of marblemedia, TVO’s Marney Malabar, and Michael Dunn, Andra Johnson Duke and Jim Bell from BYUtv.

marblemedia has seen a number of successes with its unscripted content within the past year, producing Landscape Artist of the Year Canada, Restaurants on the Edge and Blown Away for Blue Ant Media. The latter two have been picked up by Netflix for worldwide distribution.
