Hot Sheet: Cobra Kai punches up demand with finale’s release

The karate drama landed behind Prime Video's Invincible on the digital originals chart.

Netflix’s Cobra Kai spiked in Canadian demand mid-February as the series wrapped up its sixth season.

The karate drama, which follows up the story of the original The Karate Kid film series more than 30 years later, was 49.6 times more in demand than the average TV series in Canada during the week of Feb. 10 to 16, according to Parrot Analytics. The series’ final batch of five episodes released on Feb. 13.

Ahead of Cobra Kai on the digital originals chart was Prime Video’s Invincible, which saw its demand continue to rise following the premiere of its third season on Feb. 6. The adult animated superhero series had a demand average of 55.1.

Apple TV+’s thriller Severance (35.3) saw its demand fall slightly from the previous week along with Prime Video’s MrBeast-hosted reality competition series Beast Games (34.9). Severance‘s second season premiered Jan. 17 while the last episode of Beast Games‘ first season released on Feb. 13. The two series landed at the No. 3 and No. 4 spots, respectively, on the digital originals chart.

Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale (27.5) jumped to the No. 7 spot in mid-February as well. The series, based on the 1985 novel of the same name from Canadian author Margaret Atwood, will see its sixth and final season release in April.

Saturday Night Live (71.7) led overall TV originals demand in Canada during the week. The Lorne Michaels-created sketch comedy show had its 50th anniversary special on Feb. 16. HBO’s The White Lotus, which had its season three premiere the same day, landed at No. 6 overall.

Parrot Analytics calculates its Top 10 lists using Demand Expressions, which are shown by using a metric that demonstrates how much more in-demand the top series are than the average TV show (linear, pay TV, SVOD and AVOD) in Canada. For example, a difference of 1x represents the market average and 10x means a series is 10 times more in demand than the average TV show in this market. Demand is defined as the total audience demand being expressed for a title within a market. Audience demand reflects the desire, engagement and viewership, weighted by importance; so a stream or download is a higher expression of demand than a “like” or comment.
