Hot Sheet: Invincible demand soars after season three debut

Sesame Street led overall TV show demand in early February.

Prime Video’s Invincible led digital original demand in Canada in early February following the debut of its third season on Feb. 6.

The adult animated superhero series (pictured) was 47.1 times more in demand than the average TV show in Canada during the week of Feb. 3 to Feb. 9, according to Parrot Analytics. Invincible, based on Robert Kirkman’s comic of the same name, follows a young superhero who discovers his father is part of an alien race that seeks galactic domination. Canadians Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Catherine Winder and Simon Racioppa are executive producers on the series.

Remaining in the No. 2 spot, Apple TV+’s Severance saw its demand rise to 40.3 in early February from 36.3 the previous week.

Netflix’s Squid Game saw its demand continue to fall after its meteoric highs early in the year. The dystopian thriller fell to No. 3 with a demand average of 38.9.

Netflix’s Cobra Kai (28.9) jumped to the No. 6 spot as the karate drama neared the last part of its sixth and final season, which released on Feb. 13.

On the overall TV chart, Sesame Street led with a demand average of 60.6. The 55th season of the children’s series premiered on Max in the U.S. on Jan. 16. NBC’s Saturday Night Live landed in the No. 2 spot with a demand average of 59.4.

Parrot Analytics calculates its Top 10 lists using Demand Expressions, which are shown by using a metric that demonstrates how much more in-demand the top series are than the average TV show (linear, pay TV, SVOD and AVOD) in Canada. For example, a difference of 1x represents the market average and 10x means a series is 10 times more in demand than the average TV show in this market. Demand is defined as the total audience demand being expressed for a title within a market. Audience demand reflects the desire, engagement and viewership, weighted by importance; so a stream or download is a higher expression of demand than a “like” or comment.
