Canadian Film Centre adds three to board of directors

The latest appointees hail from Cinespace, Prime Video and Toronto city council.

The Canadian Film Centre (CFC) has appointed three new members to its board of directors.

The  members are Magali Simard (pictured centre), Cinespace Studios’ director of industry and community relations; Toronto city councillor for Ward 15 – Don Valley West Rachel Chernos Lin (pictured left); and Owen McCorquodale (pictured right), Prime Video Canada’s head of communications.

Simard is also a board member of FilmOntario, the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television and the City of Toronto’s Film Advisory Board.

Prior to joining Prime Video, McCorquodale was VP of television publicity at Entertainment One.

The board’s last new member was Academy Award-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water) in October 2024. His appointment was confirmed alongside the announcement of Spin VFX president Neishaw Ali as the next CFC board chair.

The rest of the board is comprised of vice-chair Cheryl Hudson, treasurer Harold Gronenthal, Kate Alexander Daniels, Paul Bronfman, Tassie Cameron, Stéphane Cardin, Duane Green, Raja Khanna, Anne Loi, John Morayniss, Mark Sakamoto, Hilary Smith, Clement Virgo and David Zitzerman.

“Each board member plays a vital role in advancing the CFC’s vision and I’m thrilled to be collaborating with these remarkable leaders as we work together to evolve the future of global storytelling,” said Ali in a statement.
