Black Fawn acquires Matthew Ninaber’s A Knight’s War

Black Fawn Distribution has set a limited theatrical release in March before the film heads to Super Channel this summer.

Guelph, Ont.-headquartered Canadian horror and genre distributor Black Fawn Distribution has acquired the Canadian rights to Matthew Ninaber’s (Transference) fantasy-horror feature A Knight’s War.

The film is slated to have a limited Canadian theatrical release this March and a Blu-Ray release in the spring as part of the distributor’s limited edition Blacklist series. It will also be available to stream on Super Channel in July.

The film was produced by Conestogo, Ont.-based prodco High Rise Studio. It was co-financed by L.A.-based Epic Pictures for its horror streamer Dread — where it is available for rent or purchase in the U.S. — in association with High Rise Studio Entertainment. A Knight’s War is executive produced by Epic Pictures CEO Patrick Ewald.

The film is written, directed and produced by Matthew Ninaber, who is also part of the cast. He filmed a large portion in his own backyard.

A Knight’s War stars Jeremy Ninaber as a knight who must venture into a deadly realm to save the chosen one’s soul.

Also starring in the film is Kristen Kaster (Death Valley), Kristen MacCulloch (Psycho Goreman) and Jeremy Dueck (Unbankable).

A Knight’s War represents the fourth collaboration between brothers Matthew and Jeremy Ninaber, beginning with 2014’s Extraction Day.

Black Fawn Distribution previously acquired Matthew’s last feature, 2021’s Death Valley.

“When you’ve got an ambitious project like this one, you really need to be able to deliver a complete and compelling vision to the screen,” said Black Fawn Distribution operations manager C.F. Benner in a statement. “We think High Rise Studio has done just that with A Knight’s War and it’s why they continue to be gamechangers in the Canadian film market.”
