Deals: Blue Ant, Apple TV+, Boat Rocker, Sinking Ship, Unbankable

Blue Ant Studios announces deals in Australia and New Zealand, Sinking Ship secures deals in multiple continents, and more.

Blue Ant Studios has sold the upcoming Love Nature series Airborne (pictured), along with a number of other titles, in recent deals for Australia and New Zealand.

In Australia, Network Ten has acquired the 4 x 60-minute nature history series from Humble Bee Films. While Channel Nine has acquired the 60-minute documentary Trump: A Second Chance? (October Films) along with two true crime titles: Body in the Suitcase (2 x 60 minutes, Transistor Films) and season 10 of See no Evil (11 x 60 minutes, Arrow Media, Saloon Media).

Channel Nine licensed the reality series Dubai: Buying the Dream (6 x 60 minutes, Angel Eye Media).

SBS has acquired the two-hour Stormy Daniels documentary Stormy (Imagine Documentaries) and Playboy Bunny Murder (2 x 60 minutes, Future Studios, Soho Studios) along with seasons two and three of history series Mysteries from Above (20 x 60 minutes, Blue Ant Studios).

SBS Food has acquired Adam Richman Eats Britain (1o x 30 minutes, eOne) Sophie Grigson: Slice of Italy (20 x 30 minutes, Finestripe Productions) and Tom Kerridge: Secrets of the Pub Kitchen (10 x 30 minutes, Bone Soup Productions).

Another deal was made with BritBox which acquired the true crime title Murder in the Village: Who Killed the Doctor’s Wife? (2 x 60 minutes, Blink Films).

For New Zealand, TVNZ has licensed Charles III: The Coronation Year (2 x 60 minutes, Oxford Film and TV) and The World’s Most Luxurious Retirement Homes (1 x 60 minutes, Screendog Pictures).

Sinking Ship

Toronto-based Sinking Ship Entertainment (SSE) has secured a number of deals across multiple continents.

In Australia, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) has acquired SSE’s literacy mystery series Wordsville. In Kenya, Akili TV! has picked up Beyond Black Beauty.

Meanwhile, in the Middle East Qatar’s beIN MEDIA GROUP has secured the rights to Odd Squad and Dino Dana. Estonia’s Duo Media Networks has acquired Ghostwriter and Phoenix Rise for the Baltics region and Dino Dana for the Baltics, Middle East and North Africa regions.

Apple TV+

Apple TV+ is now available as an add-on subscription for Prime Video in Canada, joining the likes of StackTV, AMC+, BritBox and Hayu.

Apple’s streaming service is also available on Prime Video in the U.K. and Australia. In Canada and Australia, the price is set at $12.99 per month while in the U.K. the price is £8.99 monthly. Apple TV+ launched as an add-on subscription for U.S. Prime Video users in October.

This follows a number of deals for the Amazon-owned streaming service this year including package deal for the add-on channels StackTV and Hayu as well as Crave joining as an add-on.

Boat Rocker

Toronto-based Boat Rocker Media has set deals for three of its properties in both media and merchandise.

For the animated series Danger Mouse, Boat Rocker has signed a four-year, multi-territory deal with Australian game studio Art of Play in order to develop a Danger Mouse video game. Expected to launch in 2026 for the franchise’s 45th anniversary, the game is slated across multiple platforms including Nintendo, PlayStation and Xbox in both digital and physical formats. The deal spans the U.S., the U.K., Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

Boat Rocker has also signed a two-year partnership with the U.K.’s Character-Wear to develop a collection of apparel and accessories for adults from the Danger Mouse, Count Duckula and Rainbow properties. The deal, spanning the U.K. and Ireland, includes t-shirts, sweatshirts, baseball caps and beanies. They will be available at Character-Wear’s TV and movie stores as well as select specialty and online retailers, according to the release.

The News Forum

Luke Willms’ Unbankable (Mbuntu Media) has been licensed by the St. Catharines, Ont.-based The News Forum for its Canadian premiere.

The organization has non-exclusive rights for the film in Canada for 12 months, a spokesperson for the film told Playback Daily.

The News Forum is set to premiere the documentary in Canada on Saturday (Dec. 7) followed with additional broadcasts on Dec. 8, 11, 19, 22 and 23.

Unbankable, written and directed by Willms, is an investigative documentary spanning seven years and seven countries that looks to see if a solution to Western economic issues lies in Africa’s tradition, innovation and experimentation.

The self-financed film is produced by Luke and Mark Willms from Mbuntu Media and executive produced by Mark Willms, Jeremy Dueck and David Vowell.
