Principal photography for season two of the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN) docuseries Treaty Road is underway.
Filming began in Calgary on June 5 and will continue across treaty territories including James Bay, Yellowknife and Ottawa. before wrapping in September.
Plains Cree filmmaker Candy Renae Fox returns to direct the 6 x 60-minute season, which will explore the history and impact of treaties No. 7 through No. 11.
The docuseries is hosted by Saxon de Cocq and Erin Goodpipe. It is produced by de Cocq, Fox, Ell McEachern and Hannah Hermanson under their 3 Story Pictures banner, based out of B.C., Alberta and Saskatchewan. Blue Hill Productions’ Doug Cuthand is executive producer. There is currently no distributor attached to the project.
The second season takes de Cocq and Goodpipe through various treaty territories where they will speak with experts and activists dealing with ongoing negotiations regarding the numbered treaties.
“It’s not only an eye-opening experience, meeting with and learning from all of the amazing people throughout the Treaty territories, it’s an absolute honor,” said de Cocq in a statement.
The series is is being funded through the Canada Media Fund, Creative Saskatchewan, the Alberta Media Fund, the Bell Fund and APTN.
The series will air on APTN in 2025.
