Arctic comedy North of North begins filming in Nunavut

The series, previously known as Untitled Arctic Comedy, is co-commissioned by CBC and Netflix in association with APTN.

Production is officially underway in Nunavut on the comedy series North of North.

Formerly known as Untitled Arctic Comedy, the series is co-commissioned by CBC and Netflix in association with APTN, and is being produced by Iqaluit’s Red Marrow Media and Toronto’s Northwood Entertainment.

Stacey Aglok MacDonald and Alethea Arnaquq-Baril are the series creators and executive producers.

North of North stars Anna Lambe (pictured) as a young Inuk mother trying to forge a path ahead in a small Arctic community.

Newly announced cast members include Mary Lynn Rajskub (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Maika Harper (Law and Order: Toronto), Braeden Clarke (Little Bird) Jay Ryan (It: Chapter Two), Kelly William (Portraits from a Fire), Zorga Qaunaq, Doreen Simmonds (True Detective: Night Country) and Tanya Tagaq (Bootlegger).

Joining EP and producing director Anya Adams in the director’s chair are Zoe Leigh Hopkins (Little Bird), Lisa Jackson (Savage), Renuka Jeyapalan (Kim’s Convenience), and Aleysa Young (Baroness Von Sketch Show).

Additional executive producers are Miranda de Pencier, Susan Coyne and Garry Campbell.

“We’ve already survived a blizzard during prep, so there’s no doubt our amazing cast and crew is ready to shoot a show in the Arctic,” said Aglok MacDonald and Arnaquq-Baril in a statement.
