Ontario Creates names 2024 IFF participants

The annual financing and coproduction market connects Canadian producers with global buyers, partners and financiers.

Ontario Creates has selected the 40 Canadian and international feature film projects for the 19th edition of its International Financing Forum (IFF).

The annual market takes place on Sept. 8 and 9 and connects Canadian producers with potential partners, financiers, agents and buyers on the international stage. The selected films represent 20 Canadian films and 20 international coproductions. It is held in association with the Toronto International Film Festival, which runs from Sept. 5 to 15.

Among the Canadian films selected is the horror The Benefactor, a Canada/U.K. copro from Toronto’s Byron A. Martin Productions and U.K. producer David Parfitt, with English actor Malcolm McDowell attached to star.

Others include Half-Blood Blues from Conquering Lion Pictures, written by Patrick Whistler and directed by Clement Virgo; Canada/Swiss copro Taking the Waters from writer-director Sophie Jarvis, produced by Vancouver’s Sara Blake of Ceroma Films and Magali Gillon-Krizaj of Reign Films, alongside Swiss producer Michela Pini of Cinédokké; and Paul Shkordoff’s Canada/Serbia/France copro Import from Toronto’s OPC Films, Montreal’s Metafilms, Serbia’s Sense Productions and France’s Kazak Productions.

The list of Canadian films also features the Lauren Grant-directed film Afterwards from C’mon Mort Productions, Violator Films and Clique Pictures; Dinae Robinson’s Have You Heard from Winnipeg-based Eagle Vision; Alfons Adetuyi’s Neutrino from Inner City Films; and Ariel Nasr’s Daudistan from Peripheria.

Participating producers will take part in one-on-one meetings and exclusive industry panel discussions with financiers, in addition to networking opportunities.
