Karen Zylak begins cross-country production on hockey docuseries

The 12 x 24-minute series is hosted and coproduced by Canadian ice hockey player Saroya Tinker and produced by Serendipity Media and S-Media.

Canadian distributor and prodco Serendipity Media and director Karen Zylak have returned to the ice rink for Breaking Down Barriers.

The 12 x 24-minute docuseries has commenced production in Ontario and is scheduled to wrap in July. Filming will take place in several Canadian provinces and territories and U.S. states, including Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, B.C., California, New York, and Florida.

It is hosted and coproduced by Canadian ice hockey player Saroya Tinker, who is currently playing for The Premier Hockey Federation’s Toronto Six.

Breaking Down Barriers is produced by Serendipity Media and S-Media. Mark Kristofic, Brendan McNeill, Ari Taub, Michael Baker and Patrick White serve as executive producers. It is supported by Enlightened Private Capital and is slated for release in 2023. There are no broadcasters attached as of press time.

The series will feature the individuals and organizations committed to creating social change within hockey culture in each episode.

Serendipity Media sold hockey-focused doc Camp of Dreams to Bell Media sports network TSN earlier this year, released on Canada’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Day in September. The doc has been requested for educational use in schools since its airing, according to a news release.
