Melissa Williamson has joined Saloon Media in the newly created role of SVP, scripted content – kickstarting the Blue Ant Studios company’s expansion into the scripted space.

Based in Toronto, the former Pier 21 Films president and The Beaverton executive producer oversees the development and production of all scripted comedy and drama series for Saloon, diversifying the production company’s slate. As well, the executive’s new role allows her to take advantage of Blue Ant Studios global resources and relationships, including its in-house working relationships with the division’s L.A.-based studio. She reports to Saloon Media managing director Michael Kot.

Prior to joining Saloon Media, Williamson was upped to the role of president at Pier 21 Films last year. She joined the company when it was founded in 2011, serving in a number of positions such as SVP, head of development and VP of development and production. She also previously worked for eOne’s television division and Blueprint Entertainment.
