Aaron Campbell named chair of Ontario Creates board

Campbell, who previously held the role of director, film office and production at TIFF, succeeds outgoing chair Mark Sakamoto.

Campbell, who previously held the role of director, film office and production at TIFF, succeeds outgoing chair Mark Sakamoto. Campbell currently serves as chief of staff to the Liquor Control Board of Ontario’s (LCBO) president and CEO George Soleas, and has previously held senior positions in the federal government, including the Prime Minister’s office. In addition to his work at the LCBO and Ontario Creates, Campbell is a board member of Danceworks Toronto and Cota Health.

As chair, Campbell will oversee Ontario Creates’ business strategies for creative sectors in the province. The government agency operates under the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport.

Sakamoto has been board chair since February 2016 and was part of the team that oversaw the rebrand from the Ontario Media Development Corporation to Ontario Creates. CBC and DCTV are currently developing an adaptation of Sakamoto’s memoir, Forgiveness.
