Animated fantasy Fairyheart receives Eurimages support

The Hungary/Canada/Germany copro is slated to begin production in Q1 2025.

Animated fantasy feature Fairyheart is preparing to go into production in Q1 2025 after receiving funding in the latest round of Eurimages.

The Hungary/Canada/Germany copro was the only animated and Canadian film to receive support from the Council of Europe coproduction fund out of 24 feature films, with €500,000 (C$739,561). Altogether, the Eurimages funding totaled €6,780,000 (C$10,026,875) across all films.

The film is produced by Mythberg Films’ Jozsef Berger and Krisztina Endrenyi as well as Cinemon Entertainment’s Reka Temple, with both studios based in Budapest; Toronto-based Storyteller Pictures’ Paul Lenart and North Bay, Ont.-based Lakeside Animation’s Iouri Stepanov and Courtney Wolfson; and Traumhaus Studios’ Michael Luda in Erfurt, Germany.

Fairyheart, directed by Anita Doron (The Breadwinner), focuses on a young prince from a mythical land who must save humanity from a dark wizard alongside his friend and a magical capybara unicorn. Doron co-wrote the film with Attila Gigor, which is based on the book Tündér Lala by Hungarian author Magda Szabó.

It will be distributed in Canada by Vortex Media and in German-speaking territories by Little Dream Pictures.

The film is also supported by the National Film Institute Hungary, Telefilm Canada, Creative Europe, Ontario Creates and the German media fund MDM.
