CFL on TSN breaks records

TSN scored a touchdown Saturday with its coverage of the Saskatchewan Roughriders-Edmonton Eskimos CFL game.

The channel got an average audience of 1.35 million viewers, the most of any regular season game in CFL history, according to TSN.

The record-setting game, in which the Roughriders stopped the Eskimos from getting into the playoffs, matched the season, which drew an average of 807,000 viewers to TSN through the regular season’s 72 games, up 35% from the previous season.

The channel has also seen the 18-34 demographic grow by 53% over last season.

Fourteen of this season’s games attracted more than one million viewers. Four of the top six games featured Saskatchewan.

TSN is hoping the viewing trend continues into the playoffs, which begin Nov. 14 and peak with the Grey Cup on Nov. 28.
