Four decades of production

1970: Begins six years as unit manager at CTV Toronto

affiliate CFTO

1979: Joins the team at SCTV as supervising producer, a post he holds for five years

1985: Grown-Ups, directed by John Madden, marks the first of several TV movies Whitley produces or coproduces as a freelancer

1990: Coproduces Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead in Yugoslavia

1994: Opens the doors of Dufferin Gate Productions, producing five MOWs for Showtime Networks in its inaugural year

1997: Launches Temple Street Productions with the MOW In His Father’s Shoes, which goes on to win a Daytime Emmy for outstanding children’s special

1998: Opens a B.C. Dufferin Gate office, headed by Rose Lam

1999: Moves Dufferin Gate to a larger facility in west-end Toronto

Dufferin Gate’s budget volumes peak at $250 million

Whitley elected to the CFTPA board; becomes vice chair the following year

2000: Temple Street’s Summer’s End wins a Daytime Emmy for outstanding children’s special

Season one of Queer as Folk shoots

2003: Extracts Dufferin Gate from B.C.; Showtime work now handled by Rose Lam’s Coast Mountain Films

Acquires the Queensway Studio for Queer as Folk

Presented with the entrepreneur of the year award at the Banff Television Festival

Is co-chair of the newly launched Ontario Film and Television Consortium lobby group, later renamed FilmOntario

2004: Launches Canadian Film & Television Industry Council lobby group as chair
