Production underway on CBC drama The Romeo Section

The Vancouver-shot series from Intelligence showrunner Chris Haddock (pictured) will air on CBC this fall.

Production is underway on Vancouver-based Haddock Entertainment’s 10-part drama series The Romeo Section.

The hour-long episodes, set and shot in Vancouver, will air on CBC this fall, with Chris Haddock (Intelligence, Da Vinci’s Inquest) helming the project.

Production on the series is set to wrap on Oct. 20, a week after the first episode premieres on Wednesday, Oct. 14. The production cycle will see each of the 10 episodes completed in seven days, said Kevin Eastwood, series co-producer.

So far five episodes have been penned in their entirety, with Haddock balancing writing and executive producing to complete the remaining half of the season. Haddock is co-writing the series with co-executive producer Jesse McKeown.

To capture a sleek modern look for the series, it will be shot with Epic-M Red Dragon camera technology, noted Eastwood. The use of the ultra-sensitive shooting equipment will give the show an “updated and “bold” look, especially for the show’s night scenes, he added.

Laura Lightbown and Stephen Surjik are executive producing the series alongside Haddock and McKeown, with Arvi Liimatainen and John G. Lenic serving as producers.

The Romeo Section stars Andrew Airlie (Cedar CoveThe Killing50 Shades of Grey) as Wolfgang McGee, a university professor who covertly manages a group of spies that have initiated relationships with state intelligence personnel. Jemmy Chen (Rush), Juan Riedinger (SmallvilleContinuum), Eugene Lipinski (Sophie’s ChoiceIndiana Jones) and Stephanie Bennett (Big Eyes) star alongside Airlie.
