CBC sets winter 2025 streaming, broadcast lineup

The new winter series include Saint-Pierre, Small Achievable Goals and North of North.

CBC has set its winter 2025 streaming and broadcast schedule with more than 30 new and returning programs.

All of the new series in the lineup were previously announced and include the police procedural Saint-Pierre (pictured), set in the French territory Saint-Pierre and Miquelon off the coast of Newfoundland. The 10 x 60-minute drama is produced by Hawco Productions and premieres Jan. 6 on CBC TV and CBC Gem.

Also among the new series is the Arctic-set comedy North of North. The 8 x 30-minute series is co-commissioned by CBC and Netflix, in association with APTN and produced by Iqaluit’s Red Marrow Media and Toronto’s Northwood Entertainment. It will make its premiere on Jan. 7.

Another new comedy has made its way to the lineup, Small Achievable Goals from Baroness von Sketch Show alumnae Jennifer Whalen and Meredith MacNeill. The 8 x 30-minute series is produced by Montreal’s Sphere Media and will premiere on Feb. 25.

Only one new kids series was part of CBC’s slate: the animated series Lana Longbeard, coproduced by France’s Zephyr Animation and Nova Scotia-based Copernicus. The 52 x 11-minute series is set to make its premiere on Dec. 20 with weekly episodes rolling out starting Jan. 3.

The returning scripted series include season three of SkyMed (9 x 60 minutes; Piazza Entertainment) for CBC and Paramount+, with the new season premiering Jan. 5; season 18 of Murdoch Mysteries (22 x 60 minutes; Shaftesbury), continuing Jan. 6; season 32 of This Hour Has 22 Minutes (24 x 30 minutes, IoM Media), continuing Jan. 7; and season four of Son of a Critch (13 x 30 minutes; Project 10 Productions, Hawco Productions), premiering Jan. 7.

Rounding out the scripted programming is season two of Wild Cards (13 x 60 minutes; Blink49 Studios, Front Street Pictures; distributed by Fifth Season), premiering Jan. 8; season two of Allegiance (10 x 60 minutes; Lark Productions), premiering Jan. 15; and season two of You’re My Hero (6 x 15 minutes; Longhope Media), with all episodes streaming on CBC Gem beginning March 14.

Two kids series are coming back for a second season: The Bravest Knight (13 x 11 minutes; Big Bad Boo Studios), which premieres on CBC Gem on Dec. 13 and on CBC TV on Jan. 12; and Gangnam Project (10 x 30 minutes; Pillango Productions, Aircraft Pictures), with all episodes available on CBC Gem on March 3.

For returning unscripted and factual series, season six of Family Feud Canada (64 x 30 minutes; Zone3) begins airing on Dec. 30 from Monday to Thursday; season 19 of Dragons’ Den (12 x 60 minutes) continues on Jan. 2; season 64 of The Nature of Things (11 x 60 minutes) premieres Jan. 2; and Halifax Comedy Fest (6 x 30 minutes) seasons 27 and 28 premiere Jan. 14.

Rounding out the unscripted and factual series is season two of Stuff the British Stole (8 x 30 minutes; Wooden Horse, WildBear Entertainment, Cream Productions), premiering Jan. 24; season three of Canada’s Ultimate Challenge (7 x 60 minutes; Insight Productions, The Gurin Company), premiering Feb. 27; Winnipeg Comedy Festival (5 x 60 minutes) seasons 22 and 23, premiering on March 9; season three of Bollywed (8 x 30 minutes; HeartHat Entertainment), premiering March 20; and season two of Ghosting with Luke Hutchie and Matthew Finlan (8 x 30 minutes; Blue Ant Studios) with all episodes available on CBC Gem on March 21.

Ongoing programming includes the British soap opera Coronation Street (ITV Studios) on weekdays and CBC Sports Presents on Saturday and Sunday. For ongoing news series, the pubcaster’s The National airs on weekdays and Sundays; CBC Morning Live With Heather Hiscox, weekdays on CBC TV and CBC News Network; Canada Tonight With Travis Dhanraj, weeknights on CBC News Network; Power & Politics with David Cochrane, weeknights on CBC News Network; and Rosemary Barton Live, Sundays on CBC TV and CBC News Network. About That with Andrew Chang (15 x 30 minutes) will continue on CBC TV on Jan. 10.

For returning news series, season 52 of CBC’s Marketplace returns on Jan. 24 along with season 50 of The Fifth Estate.
