CTV’s cop drama Motive hit a series-high overnight audience of 1.3 million viewers last Thursday night, the broadcaster said.

Up against U.S. series competition from Scandal and Elementary, the episode posted a  double-digit increase from its week-earlier second season premiere on March 6, according to BBM Canada data.

Motive ended its first season on CTV with an average 1.1 million viewers.

The Foundation Features and Lark Productions cop series added Warren Christie (Alphas) and Valerie Tian (The Secret Life of the American Teenager) to the cast for its sophomore season, which also airs on ABC stateside.

Motive stars Kristin Lehman as detective Angie Flynn, Brendan Penny as detective Brian Lucas, Louis Ferreira as detective Oscar Vega, and Lauren Holly as Dr. Betty Rogers.

The series is produced in Vancouver, with James Thorpe and Dennis Heaton as showrunners.

Executive producers on the series are series creator Daniel Cerone, Louise Clark, Rob Merilees, Erin Haskett, Rob LaBelle, Lindsay Macadam, James Thorpe and Dennis Heaton.

The series is distributed internationally by NBC Universal International.
