The Tribeca Film Festival on Tuesday unveiled its 2012 shorts program, and booked the Canadian films Rung, Trotteur and Barcelona into its narrative shorts competition next month in New York.

Rung, directed by Chris Hanratty and written by Mike McPhaden, is about two women in unlikely competition for a coveted position as cathedral bell-ringer.

The nine-minute film, produced by Jennifer Mesich of White Eagle Entertainment, will have its international bow at Tribeca.

Trotteur, a metaphorical story about a young man racing against a locomotive, is directed by Arnaud Brisebois and Francis Leclerc.

Brisebois also wrote the eight-minute short, which is produced by Antonello Cozzolino and executive produced by Josée Vallée and Richard Speer.

The film, which was one of the Toronto International Film Festival’s top 10 shorts in 2011, will screen as part of Tribeca’s Fallout narrative short program.

And Barcelona, a seven-minute short from director Martin Laporte, will have its world premiere at Tribeca as part of the  Journeys Across Cultural Landscapes experimental sidebar.

Shorts selected by Tribeca can compete in the best narrative short, best documentary short and student visionary award competitions.

The three Canadian shorts booked into Tribeca follow the U.S. festival last week giving berths to Kim Nguyen’s Rebelle (War Witch) and Nisha Pahuja’s The World Before Her as part of the world narrative and world documentary competitions, respectively.

Take This Waltz and Replicas were also added to the off-competition Canadian roster last week.

The Tribeca Film Festival runs April 18 to 29.
