An average audience of 2.9 million (BBM, 2+) watched Canada lose to Sweden in a shootout on TSN New Year’s Eve. Coverage of the IIHF World Junior Championship game peaked at 4.5 million viewers and won the night as most-watched program. Additionally, TSN.ca registered more than 66,000 live streams of the game according to data from Omniture.
Numbers for the Canada/US match that followed are anticipated to be larger, and will be available tomorrow. As was expected, the Championships have performed well for TSN, with the initial game against Russia pulling 2.9 million viewers, the match against the Czech Republic garnering 2.2 million and the tilt against Norway pulling 1.9 million.
Canada goes for gold tonight while Sweden faces the US in a late-afternoon bronze medal match on TSN.
