Toronto’s Wattpad Webtoon Studios has joined as an associate producer for the upcoming Game of Gods series adaptation from Rome-based Rainbow Group.

Rainbow has optioned the series for a live-action feature adaptation, a Wattpad spokesperson told Playback Daily.

The Game of Gods Wattpad young adult novel series from Italian author Hazel Riley begins with a contemporary retelling of the Greek myth of Hades and Persephone set on Yale’s campus. The first in the trilogy, Game of Gods: Descent into Hell, generated 6.7 million reads on Wattpad in less than two years before it was released in paperback.

Rainbow’s live-action unit, Colorado Film, is also on board as a producer for the series.

Colorado Film had previously adapted the Wattpad title The Tearsmith from author Erin Doom into a 2024 Netflix film of the same name.

“After the success of The Tearsmith, Wattpad has once again proved to be a source of great content, and Game of Gods is a perfect example,” said Rainbow CEO Iginio Straffi in a statement.

Game of Gods is Wattpad’s latest producing credit title, who recently signed on to the greenlit sequel to the Tubi original film Sidelined: The QB and Me alongside Vancouver-based Thunderbird Entertainment’s Great Pacific Media.
