CBC’s Wild Cards draws CW Network as U.S. broadcaster

The crime series is now filming in Vancouver with Canadian actors Vanessa Morgan and Giacomo Gianniotti cast as co-leads.

The CW Network has acquired CBC’s upcoming original crime procedural Wild Cards for its U.S. broadcast debut.

The 10 x 60-minute series is currently in production in Vancouver and is set to wrap later this fall. Wild Cards is from Blink49 Studios, Front Street Pictures and Piller/Segan in association with CBC and the CW. The series is scheduled to premiere in Canada in winter 2024.

CBC announced the acquisition on Thursday (Oct. 12), along with the casting of Canadian actors Vanessa Morgan (Riverdale; pictured left) and Giacomo Gianniotti (Grey’s Anatomy; pictured right) as the series leads.

Wild Cards is created by executive producer Michael Konyves (Bad Blood), and follows a recently-demoted detective and a con woman who team up to solve crimes in an attempt to redeem themselves.

Additional executive producers on the series are Shawn Piller, Lloyd Segan, pilot director James Genn, and writers Alexandra Zarowny, James Thorpe, Noelle Carbone and Morwyn Brebner. Front Street’s Charles Cooper and Blink49’s Virginia Rankin are producers on the series, and are overseen by Blink49’s Carolyn Newman and Alix Steerman.

Blink49 brokered the licensing deal for Wild Cards, and handles distribution for the series in the U.S. and Canada. Fifth Season handles distribution outside of North America.

“Vanessa and Giacomo’s exceptional talent, charm and on-screen chemistry promise to deliver a fresh dynamic to the crime procedural genre with Wild Cards,” said Trish Williams, CBC’s executive director, scripted content, in a statement.
