Canadian writer Alison Hepburn (pictured right; Dark Matter) will adapt The Twin Stars (pictured), the first book in the trilogy published by Titan1Studios in July 2021. Titan1Studios’ Rathan Moorthy and Wes Ambrecht will executive produce.

The story protagonist is a multi-ethnic South Asian teenager who is grappling with anxiety and grief, and finds herself transported to a war-ridden planet in the unfinished sci-fi saga she began writing when she was younger.

The series will be shot primarily as live action, with animation overlay and cut sequences “representing the inner world of Olive’s imagination and anxiety,” according to a Titan1Studios news release, which said The Twin Stars will “challenge the norms of YA programming.”

Hepburn said Moorthy and Ambrecht “nurtured this story from the beginning and boldly embraced the critical conversations around mental health and the vision we’ve created to replace its isolation with adventure.”

The company also recently announced former Pixar story manager Lorien McKenna is developing an adaptation of their comic series Zomben as an animated series. Titan1Studios’ slate also includes multiple video game projects, including the recently Canada Media Fund-supported Love is a Roguelite (LIAR) and Events at Unity Farm, and a live-action adaptation of their graphic novel Knight Guardians of Relativity.
