Toronto-based Guru Studio has appointed Sue Jung as head of talent acquisition and community engagement to support its growing production slate.
Jung’s (pictured) remit includes leading the animation studio’s overall recruitment process such as new hires, internships, and internal promotions for all productions and corporate roles.
She will report to Babita Jassal, who was promoted to VP of people of culture in March. At the time of her promotion, it was reported the change will help the company achieve their goal of increasing staff in both their 2D and 3D projects.
Jung will also work with senior leadership teams and hiring managers “to attract and nurture top, diverse talent, and champion Guru’s internal community initiatives such as mentorship and training programs for artists,” according to a news release.
Jung’s operations and talent recruitment experience spans over 15 years working for companies such as Soho VFX, Snowball Studios and Toonbox Entertainment, where she helped oversee projects like Muppet Babies and Nut Job. Most recently, she led studio operations and talent acquisitions for Warner Bros. Discovery’s BatWheels.
Samara Melanson, Guru Studio’s VP of production, said in a statement that Jung’s “broad experience” will help lead their “recruitment efforts in today’s extremely competitive talent market.”
Guru Studio has been expanding its talent across new projects such as its new family miniseries Charlotte’s Web for Sesame Workshop, Moonbug Entertainment’s My Magic Pet Morphle, and PAW Patrol‘s new seasons. They also hired Hetal Shah as senior talent acquisition specialist the same time they promoted Jassal. In May, the studio hired Mark Pinder as VP of technology to advise on technological requirements for production, productivity and infrastructure.
