Acura pegs Sugino
for two-week project
Starting off in Toronto, Avion Films’ director/dop Shin Sugino scored two weeks on a national campaign for Acura out of Ambrose Carr Linton Kelly. Director/ dops Matthew Harris and George Morita each picked up a day for Twix through dmb&b, and Stan Mestel doubled as director and cinematographer on a one-day stint for McDonald’s out of Cossette.
At Circle Productions, Robert Turner landed six days in Vancouver for Zellers, with Nick Taylor handling camera duties. Director James Weiner teamed up with dop James Gardner on two days for The Keg Restaurants through Ian Roberts Ross Roy.
Dalton Films’ director Randy MacDonald and dop Gabor Tarko had two days for Scope and dmb&b. Alex Eaton of Third Floor Editing handled post. Jim Edwards directed six days for Chrysler, with Guy Furner as dop. The agency was McKim Baker Lovick/bbdo.
David Insley picked up two days as director/dop for kfc. The job, through Young and Rubicam, was posted by Flashcut Editing’s Tim Kirkwood.
Radke Films’ director/dop Bob Perks had a day for Sensodyne out of Enterprise. Phil Kates directed two days for the ttc and Communique, with Andre Pienaar handling dop duties. Also at Radke, director Jeff Jones joined forces with dop Tarko on a Sudafed assignment out of Bates, Canada.
At The Ace Film Company in Vancouver, director Gordon Carson hooked up with dop John Houtman on a pool of four 30s for the Pacific National Exhibition. These spots are a multimedia event, based on a new cultural phenomenon aptly named ‘Bert TV.’ The job was through Palmer Jarvis, Vancouver. Also at Ace, Allen Jones was director/cinematographer on a pool for B.C. Savings Bonds and Lanyon Phillips Brink.
In Montreal, Cinelande director Erik Canuel and dop Yves Belanger filmed in-studio, and on location at McDonald’s for a new French/ English 30 called ‘Joyeux festin-auto’ out of Cossette Communication-Marketing.
At Figaro Films, new commercial action includes spots for Chrysler and agency BCP Strategie Creativite, and Loto-Quebec and Volkswagen, both out of Palm Publicite Marketing.
Glenn Bydwell was director/dop on the Cite du cinema shoot for Chrysler, while Claude Brie and dop David Franco used the steadicam on location for Loto-Quebec’s ‘Poule aux oeufs d’Or.’ Brie also got the call on two French 30s for Marche Richelieu and agency Groupaction Marketing.
Brie and dop J.P. Trudel shot the one 30 for Volkswagen.
At Michael Mills Productions, animation director Michael Mills is preparing the national tv spots and print artwork for the fall Canada Savings Bonds campaign out of Gingko Group, Toronto, and Groupe Everest, Montreal.
