Boat Rocker Media has named Michelle Abbott as its chief financial officer 15 months after she assumed the role on an interim basis.
In the role, Abbott will continue to expand the company’s finance team, which is in charge of external reporting, tax planning and compliance, and financial planning and analysis.
Abbott has been with Boat Rocker since 2016, joining initially in the role of SVP, corporate finance. In May 2019, she was promoted to the role of interim CFO following the departure of Shannon Valliant, who joined Boat Rocker in 2017 as its first ever CFO.
In a statement, Boat Rocker said Abbott has been an integral presence as the company has acquired nine companies in the space of five years. On the Canadian side, those acquisitions include Insight Productions, Proper Television, Jam Filled Entertainment and Radical Sheep, while its international acquisitions include L.A.-based TV production studio Platform One Media, Lip Sync Battle producer Matador Content and the kids and family entertainment division of U.K.-headquartered FremantleMedia.
Before joining Boat Rocker, Abbott held positions at telecommunications firms Aastra Technologies Limited and Mitel, as well as Deloitte & Touche.
Her predecessor, Valliant, is currently the executive in residence at ScaleUp, a venture capital firm supporting early stage technology companies, providing capital and connections to accelerate portfolio company growth, according to LinkedIn.
