Jeffrey Katzenberg and Meg Whitman’s Quibi has ordered adult animated series Doomlands (working title) from Blue Ant Studios prodco Look Mom! Productions.
Created and directed by Josh O’Keefe, the 10-episode by 10-minute show sees Danny Doom and aspiring bartender Lhandi sling beers across a wasteland in their subterranean pub. Blue Ant previously confirmed to Playback Daily that the series was in development with the short-form streamer at the 2019 Banff World Media Festival.
Look Mom!’s Josh Bowen (Gary and His Demons, pictured) serves as an executive producer on the project, while director of development Lee Porter (Bigfoot) is the show’s supervising producer and voice director. Writers and performers attached include Roger Bainbridge (Baroness Von Sketch Show), Gary and His Demons and Cavendish creator Mark Little (Conan) and New Eden creator Kayla Lorette (Kim’s Convenience).
Launched earlier this month in North America, the mobile streaming service currently sees Bell’s TSN produce Sports AM by TSN, while CTV News produces NewsDay by CTV News and NewsNight by CTV News as part of its exclusive partnership with Bell. Additionally, the streamer is currently in development on a spin-off series of Canadian sci-fi feature Code 8, directed by Jeff Chan and co-written with Chris Paré.
Earlier this week, it was reported that Quibi CEO Whitman had said the service had reached 1.7 million downloads during its first week (April 6). Quibi is currently offering a 90-day free trial, following which the service has a $9.99 a month ad-free tier and a $6.99 ad-supported tier.
