Six industry figures have been selected for the tribute, which recognizes established and emerging women in their field. Lanctôt will be recognized for her directing work, while Mozaffari is joined by Sophie Dupuis as emerging directors. Both directors were nominated at the 2019 Canadian Screen Awards, with Mozaffari taking the Achievement in Directing award in the film category. Screenwriter Marie Clements and actors Wendy Crewson (Saving Hope) and Jean Yoon (Kim’s Convenience) will also be given the honour.

All recipients will be given an honourarium from Birks, which will help fund their next project.

The nominees were chosen by a panel of 18 journalists who cover arts, culture and entertainment. The tribute will take place at a luncheon at the Four Seasons Hotel in Toronto on Wednesday, Sept. 4.

Past Birks Diamond Tribute honourees include filmmakers Deepa Mehta, Alanis Obomsawin and Louise Archambault and actors Sandra Oh, Tatiana Maslany and Catherine O’Hara.
