NBCU International acquires The Murders for Europe and Africa

The Muse-produced series will air on Universal TV in the U.K. and Africa starting later this year.

NBCUniversal International Networks (NBCUIN) has acquired Muse Entertainment’s upcoming procedural The Murders for broadcast in the U.K., Africa, France, Spain, Germany and Poland.

Greenlit by CityTV in October, the Vancouver-set drama follows a rookie homicide detective who makes a critical error and tries to rectify the situation. Created and exec produced by showrunner Damon Vignale (Blackstone), the eight-episode series stars Jessica Lucas, Dylan Bruce, Lochlyn Munro, Terry Chen, Luvia Peterson and Rita Gallo. Through the deal, The Murders will premiere on NBCUIN’s Universal TV in the U.K. and Africa and on 13th Street Universal in France, Spain, Germany and Poland starting in mid-2019.

The agreement for the procedural is NBCUIN’s third Canadian pick up over the past five months. In October, the company nabbed the rights to air Muse Entertainment’s other new procedural, Coroner, starring Serinda Swan. Commissioned by the CBC, the drama is produced by Muse, Back Alley Films and Cineflix Studios, and was acquired to air in Germany, the U.K, France, Poland, Africa, Latin America, Brazil and Spain. During the show’s one-hour premiere in Canada this January, it earned an average audience of 1,051,000, making it CBC’s most-watched drama premiere in four years.

Most recently, NBCUIN also acquired the rights to Canada/U.K. copro Departure, starring Christopher Plummer and Archie Panjabi. Produced by Shaftesbury and Greenpoint Productions, the thriller will be broadcast on Universal TV in the U.K., Africa and Gemany and on 13th Street Universal in France, Spain and Poland in late 2019.

Exec producers on The Murders include series stars Lucas, Shawn Williamson, Jamie Goehring and Muse Entertainment’s Jesse and Michael Prupas. Arielle Boisvert serves as a producer. Paris and London-based About Premium Content (APC) oversees international sales.
