The Directors Guild of Canada (DGC) has named Dave Forget its new national executive director, effective July 1.

Forget replaces Brian Baker, who is retiring from the role after five years, though he’s not leaving the organization altogether. Baker will next take on the role of senior advisor and be based out of the guild’s Montreal office.

Forget, who previously served as director of policy, joined the DGC in 2015.

“In his three years as director of policy, Dave has built a stronger presence for the Guild in Ottawa than ever before and played an instrumental leadership role in our successful campaign to have last year’s disastrous Group Licence Renewals sent back to the CRTC,” said DGC president Tim Southam in a release.

Prior to joining the DGC, Forget worked for Telefilm in a variety of management roles. He started at Telefilm in 2001 as a senior investment manager in the Western Region office, and later took on the roles of feature film unit director, regional director for the Ontario and Nunavut Telefilm offices, director of television and his final role with the organization, director of business affairs and certification.

Throughout his more than 40 years in the film and television business, Forget has also held management positions at Red Sky Entertainment, 20th Century Fox and Alliance Atlantis Releasing.
