DGC’s National Directors Division launches mentorship initiative

The National Director Mentor Program will provide up to 10 DGC members with a nine-month mentorship.

The Directors Guild of Canada (DGC) has launched a new mentorship initiative through its National Directors Division (NDD).

The National Director Mentor Program pairs Guild members with more senior colleagues to help accelerate their career.

The mentorships will last from January to August 2025 and will include monthly one-on-one meetings for each pair, as well as a larger group meeting of all mentors and mentees.

Up to 10 participants will be selected via the NDD executive committee. The program application deadline is Nov. 4.

The program is one of three initiatives created by the NDD. The Director Observer Initiative helps producers connect with potential placements to shadow directors on set, while the Director Market Accelerator – launching next year – will help DGC members access international markets.

“Initiatives like this are vital for the strength and longevity of the Canadian film and television industry as a whole,” said NDD chair Zach Lipovsky in a statement.
