Hot Docs hosts Moc Docs

Hot Docs Documentary Film Festival this year debuts Moc Docs, a new mini-mockumentary series.

Presented by the Canadian Independent Film Caucus and sponsored by CBC Newsworld’s Rough Cuts, the new program offers Canadian doc-makers a chance to have fun with their genre and play with the language of the doc form.

Tagged as the showcase for the best "documentary droll" Canada has to offer, the program will choose up to five mockumentaries from a nationwide script competition.

The mini-mocs must be under three minutes in length and be very funny.

The CIFC recommends spoofs of known films or series and mock-serious parodies of typical doc matter.

Scripts must be submitted to the Toronto CIFC by March 21.

Successful applicants will be given access to camera and sound equipment for one day of shooting, two days of post facilities and labor, a one-day mockumentary workshop with Trailervision’s Albert Nerenberg, a one-year membership to the CIFC and a tiny honorarium.

Production begins March 27, with a delivery date of April 27.

Hot Docs takes off in Toronto April 30 to May 6. *
